In spite of recent buzz about companies pulling out of municipal wi-fi projects, the City of Riverside has just announced their latest wi-fi expansion. In fact, free wi-fi is surging like wildfire. In just the past few weeks, Arlington, La Sierra, Mt. Rubidoux and Fairmount Park went live, joining several more areas that went live in July. Many new areas are being added, yes indeed like wildfire, until the initial surge ends August 22nd. According to Wi-Fi Czar, Steve Reneker, “… more than 1,200 people every night now are accessing the free wi-fi…” Upcoming expansion includes the older, more wooded portions of downtown. More free training is also being offered.
