The following is an article by a new contributor, Erick W. Lange:
What in Hell is That Sound?
That’s what some people who live close to Riverside Community College on Magnolia Ave. might’ve wondered last night. It might’ve sounded like a bunch of horns and some drums.
So what in hell WAS that sound? Well it MIGHT’VE been the Blue DEVILS! They’re a drum and bugle corps from Concord, CA. Actually, they are the MOST successful, decorated and winningest drum and bugle corps in DCI history with an unprecedented 12 World Championship titles! And they were one of a dozen corps competing at RCC’s Wheelock Field yesterday.
Okay so you’re probably wondering a few things right about now. Like, “What is a drum and bugle corps?” “What is DCI?” “Wait… is this BAND?”
NO! It’s not band! And we who be in the DCI-know STRONGLY dislike it being called “band”.
Here, I’m gonna provide a few VERY helpful sites that should provide you with all the knowledge you need to understand just what “drum corps” is:

Riverside Community College is really no stranger to DCI. Over several years, the stadium has become a classic venue for the west coast leg of many World Class competitive drum corps’ summer tours.
And just last year, DCI held its annual World Championships in our own Southern California for the first time in 36 years of existence. 27 corps competed at Pasadena’s Rose Bowl Stadium in front of thousands of ecstatic fans!
Well, I hope that sufficiently answers the question “What in Hell is that Sound?”
But, if you have any other questions, I’m Erick and this is my email:
